“Criminal Minds” casts Jeanne Tripplehorn as series regular.
Tripplehorn will replace Paget Brewster, who quit the show earlier this year. After six years portraying Emily Prentiss, Brewster tweeted, “it is time for something new.”
Executive producer Erica Messer says in a statement, “we’re thrilled to have Jeanne Tripplehorn join our team as a profiler. Her character will be introduced in [season 8 ] premiere. It’s an exciting way to start season 8.”
Tripplehorn starred in HBO’s “Big love” for five seasons. She recently guest starred on Fox’s “New Girl.”
Farewell to Showtime’s groundbreaking pot dramedy, “Weeds.” The much acclaimed series has been cancelled. The upcoming season 8 will be its last.
EW.com broke the (sad) news. “There were two shows, “Weeds” and “Dexter,” that really got Showtime taken seriously for cutting-edge original programming, says Showtime entertainment president David Nevins. “How they get brought home is really important. In this case, both for the sake of the two women behind the show [series creator Jenji Kohan and Golden Globe-winning star Mary-Louise Parker] and an audience that’s really invested in the show. TV fans love nothing better than to complain about how shows end and we really want to end this one the right way.”
The final season of “Weeds” premieres Sunday, July 1 at 10 p.m. on Showtime.
