‘Arrow’ Promotes Manu Bennett To Series Regular

Slade Wilson a.k.a. Deathstroke is staying in Starling city.

The Hollywood Reporter reports, Manu Bennett, who plays Slade Wilson on The CW freshman series, has been promoted to series regular for the upcoming season 2.

The “Spartacus” actor, Bennett plays Slade Wilson, who appears on the series’ as Oliver’s friend while he was on the Island.

Bennett joins cast members Colton Haynes and Emily Bett Rickards, who were promoted to series regulars recently.

“Arrow” airs Wednesdays on The CW.

The hood will be back for a second season.

Freshman series “Arrow” will return for a second season, while returning series “Vampire Diaries” has been picked up for a fifth season and “Supernatural,” a ninth season, The CW announced Monday.

“We said last year that one of our goals was to establish building blocks to grow on, and now with our new hit “Arrow” and fan favorite “Supernatural” on Wednesday night, and the continued success of “The Vampire Diaries” on Thursday, we’ve been able to do that,” said CW president Mark Pedowitz in a statement. “Not only do [all] perform well on-air, they’re also extremely successful for us both digitally and socially. I’m thrilled to have all three shows returning to our schedule next season.”

“The Vampire Diaries,” “Arrow” and “Supernatural” currently air on The CW.

Alex Kingston Joins ‘Arrow’ And More Casting News

“Arrow” has recruited Alex Kingston for a mother role.

The “ER” veteran has been cast to guest star in a recurring role on The CW’s freshman drama. Kingston will play Dinah Lance, Laurel’s (Katie Cassidy) mother.

According to EW, Dinah is set to return to Starling City to make amends with the family she abandoned after the death of her other daughter.

Diego Klattenhoff Leaving ‘Homeland’ And More Casting News

Diego Klattenhoff is leaving “Homeland.”

According to TVLine, Klattenhoff, who plays Mike on Showtime’s Golden Globes award-winning drama, will not be a series regular when the series for a third season, in September.

Klattenhoff, may however return as a recurring actor.  The site also reports Morena Baccarin, who plays Brody’s estranged wife is expected to return to the series as a regular part of the cast.

“Homeland” season 3 returns on Sunday, Sept. 29 at 9 p.m.

Colton Haynes is joining “Arrow.” The “Teen Wolf” actor has landed a recurring role on the CW drama series.

The actor joins freshman drama series as Roy Harper, a “handsome, street-savvy” teen who falls for Thea, Oliver’s sister, according to TV Guide.

‘Arrow’ Casts ‘Spartacus’ Actor

In DC Comics, Roy becomes Green Arrow’s sidekick, Speedy. The character has also gone by the names of Red Arrow and Arsenal.

Hayes, who recently departed ‘Teen Wolf’ in early October, will make his first appearance in 2013.

Country singer Carrie Underwood joins NBC’s “The Sound of Music.”

Grammy winner Carrie Underwood has been cast to play Maria von Trapp in NBC’s broadcast of the original stage version of “The Sound of Music,” NBC announced today.

“Speaking for everyone at NBC, we couldn’t be happier to have the gifted Carrie Underwood take up the mantle of the great Maria von Trapp,” said Robert Greenblatt, chairman of NBC Entertainment. “She was an iconic woman who will now be played by an iconic artist.”

The three-hour event is scheduled to air sometime during the holidays in 2013.

The CW has cancelled freshman dramedy “Emily Owens, M.D.”

The network has chosen not to pick up the series starring Mamie Gummer for a full season. However, The CW will air all 13 episodes of the original order.

The drama series debuted to just 1.7 million total viewers and a 0.5 demo rating. The CW has picked up “Arrow” and “Beauty and the Beast” for full seasons.
