Theater vet, Andy Mientus has joined ‘Smash’ as a series regular, according to TVLine.

Mientus is set to play Kyle, a poor kid from Brooklyn, who wants to write for Broadway. Kyle is also best friends with Jeremy Jordan’s character, Jimmy.
“Smash” is set to premiere midseason on Nbc.

The “Newsies” star will join the cast for second season of NBC’s musical drama. Jeremy Jordan, who is currently starring on Broadway, has been cast as a singer from Brooklyn.
“Smash” is looking to fill several roles with Dev (Raza Jaffrey), Ellis (Jaime Cepero), Frank (Brian d’Arcy James) and Micheal (Will Chase) gone.
“Smash” returns mid-season on NBC.
More casting news, NBC’s new comedy “Go On” has promoted John Cho to a series regular. The comedy series starring Matthew Perry (Friends) will premiere in August 8 following the NBC’s Olympics coverage.
